The book Stories of the erased is a colection of 27 stories of the erased individuals which

with their names last names or at least nicknames from faceless crowd walking into slovenian

readers and worn them that they can't throw all the erased in the same barrel. Book si - not

coinciedentally - came out in july only 2 days previous to public precedense on the European

court for human rights in the case of Kurić and others against Sovenia. Their stories of

courrage inovativity, strategies of survival, and hope erased wrote in cooperation with

Universe for social work and section for etnology and cultural anthropology of Philosophic

faculty of Ljubljana, publishing of this document was also supported by Peace institute.

Book gives for the first time voice to the erased which until now were just a marrionettes of

subjective media and nationalistic politics. Heartbreaking stories of the erased shows from

the first person view about problematics of which for the long time was no talk. But the fact

that 50 000 people with regular residence in Slovenia over night lost not only residency but

also jobs retirements social and health insurance and legal documents, from passports to

personal id cards... that fact talks for it self

'I recieved first positive responce in 1999, when they aproved my temporary residence. The

trouble i had to get all of the documents. And if a person doesn't have money for 1 personal

document... where could one get 600 EU for one passport? You are not alowed to work,

you are not alowed to do anything... That is when my first dother was born and they didn't

want to register me as a father into a birth list, being that i didn't have a valid document. That

is why i aranged Jugoslavian passport through the cultural association Mihajlo Pupin, so i

could apply for temporary residance... So after 21 years of nos-stop living in Slovenia i

became a foreigner, more exactly Serb, who temporary lives in Slovenia...

Stories are rich - for some too rich - with remarks which closer shows the problematics,

because they deconstruct individual events, form legal, sociological and culturological frame

of the erased and gives key informations about erasure, such as formation of slovenian

citisenship, decisions of constitutional court, jurisdictional aspect, the formation of the

association of the erased.... Reader can decide for him-her self if it will read only one story

all will it enter into problematics of the erasure through witnesing stories.

Years of struggle with slovenian jurisdictional windmills di not erase liveliness, courage an

inovitivity, which with a good sence of even houmor and a lot of sorrow fallows this stories.

Speciality is also the language, which in stories are mixed with some of local slovenian and

individual croatian serbian bosnian words...

Final judgement:

The book is the most actual, as around 13 000 people are still struggeling with unresolved

status, and in the same time it explores and exposes some of the more hidden aspects of the
